  • After the Boao Forum for Asia, Vivo states the new phone will have an “all-round flagship configuration.”
  • It’s currently speculated the device may deliver an 8-inch display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, and a 50MP main camera in its triple camera array.

Vivo’s next second-generation foldable phone could be upon us quite quickly as teasers begin to roll through.

The Chinese OEM recently confirmed the possible imminent launch of the X Fold 2 through a Weibo post (via 91Mobiles). The machine-translated Chinese post explains Vivo’s excitement behind unveiling the new foldable phone at the Boao Forum for Asia. The company states the X Fold 2 has an “all-round flagship configuration” with a “light and thin flagship feel.”

Vivo’s announcement post was brief and did not include any further information about its second-generation foldable device. However, the company hinted at revealing more surprises in April, without giving away any specifics. It remains to be seen whether this will be a full launch or just more details about the upcoming device.

April would be a suitable time for a full reveal, considering that Vivo’s initial X Fold phone was announced around the same time last year.

With Vivo touting flagship specifications for its upcoming X Fold 2, expectations are high for its official release. It is rumored that the device will feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, giving it an advantage over other foldable phones still using the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The X Fold 2 is also expected to have an 8-inch display, which Vivo claims is the most powerful folding screen they have developed.

In terms of photography, rumors suggest that the device will feature a triple-camera array with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens. The selfie camera is rumored to have 32MP, twice the resolution of its predecessor. The X Fold 2 is also speculated to be around 10% lighter than the original, which could explain Vivo’s reference to the device offering a “light” feeling.

The upcoming device is expected to have a larger battery with 4800mAh capacity and support for 120W fast charging. However, all of these details are based on rumors and speculation, and nothing has been confirmed by Vivo. More information is expected to be revealed in April, which could also include Vivo’s first clamshell foldable to compete with the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
